Attracting & Maintaining a High Quality Workforce
Attracting and maintaining a high quality workforce are two of the biggest issues facing health care providers today. As demand for services continue to grow and the workforce continues to shrink, understanding what attracts talent to healthcare and what sustains that talent is key to the industry’s success. How do you find good people to hire and what are ways that you get them to stay? If you are currently employed in the healthcare field what attracted you to the industry and what keeps you in it?

I've just completed a 3 month internal recruitment of LPNs who are interested in going on to become RNs. We had about half of our LPNs interested at our initial meeting. Of those half (or a quarter of all) of our LPNs have enrolled in college programs for 2010 to earn their nursing degree to become RNs. The best method was offering meetings at convenient times with food and having a list of resources ready and then staying in contact with each of them as they went through the decision process. The biggest challenge continues to be coming up with the initial funds to enroll. We have a tuition reimbursement program, but coming up with $500 - $1200 to get started is difficult for them. I would like to hear if anyone has creative ideas for getting a short term loan program started or other funding ideas.
